 Student Profile

The Minds in Motion Academy is a sensory motor-based academic program.  It has been designed for students who find it difficult to organize sensory information, thus interfering with their ability to learn in a traditional manner.  The Minds in Motion Academy offers strong therapeutic interventions in the academic setting, specifically for students with special needs, to avoid the many possible pitfalls of the public school setting.   We offer small class size, more individualized teaching, and flexible curriculum programming.  The Minds in Motion Academy was created for, but is not limited to, serving students who may have a diagnosis of Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), low muscle tone, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Dyspraxia, Pervasive Developmental Disorder

(PDD-NOS), Learning Disability, and/or fall on the Autism Spectrum.  It has been designed for students who are not currently thriving in a traditional educational setting. Through developing more mature Sensory Motor functions and fulfilling self regulatory needs, The Minds in Motion Academy’s hope is to enable their students to one day succeed in a larger, more traditional educational setting.  A child must be 5 years old by September 1st to be eligible for the Minds in Motion Academy. The two MIM classes are best suited for the following types of students:

For children who can perform in a group of 2 to 3 and work semi- independently.

For children who demonstrate independence in daily self-help tasks.

For children who will benefit from an academic rich daily schedule with scheduled sensory and movement breaks throughout the day.

Or…

For children who may require more individualized sensory and motor therapy throughout the day.

For children who are not quite able to regulate themselves consistently and may require a more flexible daily schedule.

For children who consistently perform learned skills but may need more intensified multi-sensory activities to achieve mastery.

For children who require more intensive speech and language interventions.
