Curriculum
Curriculum
Our academic curriculum framework follow the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL’s) guidelines for Reading, Writing, Oral Language, and Mathematics.
Our staff will have knowledge and training using materials for several instructional programs in the various disciplines. Our staff will integrate several different programs and techniques to provide a multisensory, experimental, academic program which caters to the individual needs of our students. Our Social Studies and Science curriculums will revolve around intricately planned monthly themes. The use of thematic units at Minds in Motion will allow our students to generalize and connect their newly acquired skills across curriculum areas and into their environment, making learning more purposeful, meaningful and practical.
At Minds in Motion Academy, we offer small multiage classes (K-6), which are developmentally and functionally driven by their populations. The classes will have a maximum of 6-8 students. Each class will be staffed with one teacher and one teacher’s assistant. Children may be pulled out to work individually, in dyads, or in small groups throughout their academic day. The Minds in Motion Academy will have an academic tutor available for extra reinforcement and remediation. Students at the Academy will have an individualized learning profile that reflects their individualized academic curriculum.
All students at The Minds in Motion Academy will participate in a school-wide positive behavior contract. Students will be encouraged to demonstrate hard work and appropriate behavior.
